Ascents in Mountain Quarry by Bruno Alves Buzatto

Still haven't worked out a way of doing the start on the left. Using the drilled hole and going right feels off route...

Another lap today for practice. Would be a 22 classic if the second half wasn't so easy.

Now I love this climb!

Finally! Second go today, after cruising to the fourth bolt and falling before clipping it in the first attempt! Knowing the moves on this one makes an immense difference.

Got the un-un-send! Will probably un-un-un-send when I try to put the draws up for Robin or Jorge next time!

7 degree morning, my cold fingers and sloppy moves spat me out before the ledgy/jug thing. The rest went clean after, but I am not un-un-sending today! Not today!!

Scary to get clips 2 and 3, don't think I would have done it if Jorge hadn't got those up for me! Love the variety in this climb - hard crimping, long moves, scary slab and powerful steep stuff - a little bit sad it's so artificial, but well it's a quarry... Great climb, I'm glad it's there!

Got to the third bolt on lead but chickened out and changed to top rope. Worked most moves out on top rope but still shut down at the crux. Couldn't even do that on top rope... feels like it won't go anytime soon...

This is good fun, but our plates wouldn't fit, which made it real hard for the legendary Jorge to get the third clip - be aware those carrots are real fat!

Wow, got my ass kicked the first time back on this classic. After "re-memorising" all moves I managed to do it again.

is this even a warm up?

This is really good, a bit of everything: hard slab and some technical moves in two different parts. But it's long, I don't suggest doing it with a 60m rope — Em had to scramble up to the right to get me to the ground!

It's a nice 18 for Mt Quarry, I'm surprised I hadn't done that before!

This is so great! But it was also so dirty, will bring a big brush next time!! Still could not do the crux move, but it's not that far maybe? Hard for 22, I wonder if 23 (as in the book) is more adequate...

Em getting back to leading! Easy but fun warm up, I'm surprised it looks like I hadn't done this before.

Wow, I loved this, I think it's a little gem in MQ. Just make SURE you have medium and small cams and that you comfortably climb this grade — there is a scary run out between the first bolt and the cam placements, but easy climbing there. Then scary run out after the slab, but safe I think. In terms of moves, the climb packs a variety of fun stuff, with hard slab where you are really climbing on friction to get through the crux — Mt Cuthbert feelings!! This should be a mixed route though, not sport...

Hum, not sure I stayed left enough in the first two slabs now that I read the description. I tried, but it's really contrived on that point, I kept feeling I was between this route and Penthouse. Really loved the end of this climb, using that cool crack that goes left of the anchors!! Will maybe come back on another occasion and try to stay as left as possible before the 3rd bolt.

YES! Forgot my shoes and it was a 37ºC day, but we got there early and I smashed it on the first pink point attempt using Jorge's shoes. What a classic!!!

First time I feel good on this. Problem is that just putting the draws up and working the moves killed me, no chance to send today... But I reckon now that I know the moves I finally have a chance! But it would be much better if I could put the draws up first... What a classic!

Em onsighted this before a massive shower! We waited for the wall to dry a bit and I went on a mission to retrieve wet draws!

I think this is a pretty cool climb, just super technical! I've been looking at it for a long time and being too scared to try it, but I think today I might have got my first 21 onsight! I'll come back to do that 17 route on top of it!

Not a bad warm up!

On the day before I left Perth I decided to face this beast on lead for the first time, after having top-roped it a couple of times a few weeks ago. I cruised up, protected it perfectly and did it clean, I was stoked. It's less scary when you know you can do it easily on top rope, but super intimidating for an onsight...

I'll call this a flash cause years and years ago I got on it and bailed cause I thought the top was too scary. This time I crushed it, super happy about it. The only problem I find is that the second last bolt is too much to the left, it made me go on the next route on the left and then have to down climb back to this one... Plus, setting a top-rope for Heidi was complicated due to rope drag. You might want to top belay your second on this one and abseil down...

This is actually pretty fun, but it was so dirty, and there were a few bees drinking water at the start. The run out to the 5th bolt is scary — if you are short take a couple of small to mid-size cams (something like a 0.5 or a bit smaller) to protect the move to clip the fifth bolt. It's easy terrain in most of the run out, but not to clip the bolt if you are short (and by then you are seriously run out).

This is actually pretty awesome! I really suffered on the slab and couldn't believe I got to the end clean, stoked. Technical and really delicate last moves. The first (and only?!?) bolt is actually terrifying to clip, but after that it's less scary.

Such a hot day, and I am weak and haven't climbed hard in a while, so I thought I had no chance of redpointing this, the idea was to at least put the gear up for Jorge and I to try a pink point. But I just pulled it through somehow! Stoked to the moon

This was more fun than I anticipated, I like it for a warm up. Fun last couple of moves.

Fun lead, I love the slabby bits. The second pitch (we did one and top out, not sure people normally do that) is just a shit scramble, where Jorge placed one cam, haha...

Fun little two pitch adventure (if you consider the scramble to top out a second pitch). Jorge led the first pitch (the actual climbing part) and I lead the walk to the top

Warming up and cleaning the route for Gundies.

I seem to have logged a red-point of this in the past, but I must have gone left (easier on the black rock) at the crux. Today was the first proper ascent of this, but on top rope after the lead attempt ended in a massive whipper. Scary slaby delicate crux. The Crag is not allowing me to log this as a top-rope, is it because I logged it as something else before?!
