Castle Rock Summit Bluffs

The sport route on the good looking face left of (just before) the access gully. Crux bulges to start, then a very pleasant featured slab (slightly flakey & friable) to a double cold-shut lower off.

The first route you come to, on the right wall of the East Gully, towards the bottom. Two independent starts, both of them tricky, and both of them comprising the crux of the route. Strongly recommend stick clipping the first bolt. 5 bolts to lower off.

Sport 18m, 5

Note: if top-roping the route, clip the 3rd bolt as a directional to avoid uncontrolled swings into the ground from falls low on the route.

5.6 Village People

Starts on top of the large boulder pile at the base of the middle of the wall, at a rightward diagonal seam feature (which is not the way the route goes).

  2. 30m (5.5) Straight up thin, low angled slab, passing 9 bolts to double bolt rappel station at stance below overhang.

  3. ?? This route is just begging for a 3rd pitch that blasts out the overhang...

Be especially careful descending from this route with a single 60m rope - it is possible, but both pitches are very close to 30m long. YOU MUST TIE KNOTS IN THE ENDS OF YOUR ROPE!
