Ascents by Lee Cujes having Distinct route

Insane 40m roof, my hat is off to the bolter. What an epic that would have been.

Super steep tufa blobs. Perfect read! Yaaaaaas.

First few bolts shared with Oeil de Biche, then goes right and up forever. I was "off" in about 5 places and managed to somehow get through with a combination of blind luck, rogue kneebars and when all else failed, dynoing. Soooo good.

Wow, okay. Low gravity day. Very pleased.

Oh yeah! Some guys were on it when I walked up so I had to queue. Decided to watch and make the most of it. Used my own beta on the crux and just managed to squeak through. A rare, magic moment of climbing for me.

8 years it waited for a second ascent. Very hard to grade something so short - three bodylengths of beyond horizontal roofing. Rocky gave it 27 with a fat question mark after 60 days (!!) of work. It must be more like 29. "About as silly as climbing gets." --JJ O'Brien [7]

Extension to My Way up the twin, leaning, overhung fingercracks will see your fingers and shoes working at full steam.

FFA. Made the ninjump, looked down and saw the huge runout past the skipped clip and almost fell off. [5]

Really cool low dyno (unless you're Long-arms Schimke), then a baffling upper crux which I solved with some knee-trickery. Hard to grade as the sequence is short, but hard/bizarre. It goes without saying the chalked holds way out right on Harvey Wallbanger are not in. [6]

FFA. Good old linkups. Beautiful Thing into Beastly Behaviour = Well Behaved. More sustained. Quickdraw snagged my gear loop on the crux. Lucky to bump it off and keep going.

FFA. Boom! 10:30am, done. Hype hype hype - this is the best route I've ever put up. What's better than this? Serpentine...what else? [5]

FFA. Another bouldery one.

FFA. Sent first go of the day. This is the most difficult route I've ever had to grade. It's 24/5 for 35m, then a V8? morpho boulder problem for 10m. Stuffed if I know, certainly the hardest moves on the cliff.

FFA. I love this one. Three obvious boulders split by a shake. The top one is raaaaad. And great marbly rock above.

FFA. Totally my jam - steep and mostly jugs. Very consistent up to the sting in the tail. There is some conjecture as to whether this should be 29 or 30. I figure you can either do Arkenstone's start boulder or you can't. If you can, there would be no change in difficulty between the routes. But I can't, so I therefore feel 29 is justified. [4]

FFA. Who doesn't love some feet-first action? Three days [4]

FFA. Roof boulder, then roof boulder, then deceptive headwall finale. Three days [4].

I thought this was 30 when I established it, and it possibly was with the beta I used. Smarter heads prevailed with the beta, so now 29, and I've heard suggestions as low as 27(!) Time will tell. More importantly, it's a pretty unique piece of climbing for this part of the world. [10]

FFA. Pure vertical, ultra technical. This is the first time I can remember my abs and legs failing on a vertical route. 4 or 5 days. Thanks to Glenn for encouraging me to persist with this thing.

Finally! First tries on this back in 2012 with Duncan. Only ever dabbled on it here and there since then. Finally decided to put in some work and actually get it done. Still, took 3 days this season. It's a funny old route. Everything feels super doable off the rope, but boy it takes a toll on redpoint. [16]

The classic, very overhung arete of Rodellar. Power endurance that seemed unlikely at first. When I ticked though, I crushed it. I hereby announce my retirement from climbing. For a while. [6]

Short and bouldery with some knee trickery. [3]

Went up to clean the draws and somehow kept going despite screaming skin. My gaston power somehow compensated for my piss-poor finger strength. I battled my arse off for this. My best tick of the year? [6]

First try today, and did it so nicely. I am stoked! [6]

Top went into the sun but was well motivated to not fall again. 55m of epic steepness capped with a slabby wall crux move. Yowza! [4]

This is 5.13b. And a fantastic route.

Well that was unexpected! Was so pumped on the top jugs I started to black out. Wild jug dyno desperation = palm flappers. Ultra steep, ultra my style. Condition report at time of send: Sunny, 12°C and 54% humidity at 3pm! [2]

Another route trying to muscle in on Evil's popularity. Interesting, but not sustained. [4]

2nd ascent of Duncan's link/extension (longer, more sustained finish) of my 2009 route Ahead Of The Curve. Thrilling to do this first shot today after the kerfuffle of yesterday and not being to even dog to the top. [3]

Was a rest day, but at about 3pm, decided to walk up the hill and have a quick go. Good move, as it turns out. Four goes in 2012, four this trip. [8]

Stuck the crux, almost dropped the crossover jump to the flake, then managed to hang in to the top and the potential heartbreaker last move victory dyno. For steep, big hold, dynamic pumper climbing, it doesn't get much better than this. I wish there was 100 more just like it. [5]

This was surprising, and great. From not being able to get off the ground on my first try to totally walking it with near-French style. [2.1 :)]

Certainly a great fun route (similar to Spartacus) and worth the walk up, but not 8a. Hence its popularity! [2]

This route climbed so much differently than I imagined. 40m enduro routes are usually sprints for me, but with this one I had to move slowly, milking every rest, getting back just enough juice to tackle the next section. Nothing on the 20m headwall is overly hard but my god it is sustained. Sam froze to death on the belay. [4]

Great to finally get on this one and get it done, especially in light of its reputation as probably the lowest quality route on the wall. On a wall this good, even if that were true, it remains an excellent route. Might be easier? The difficulty of the two boulder cruxes (especially the first) would be quite height-dependent. 4th ascent. [3]

Much respect to Emil for this line, and opening it for others to try. I did many belays for Emil on Flight Risk over the years and I still hope he's able to make it happen.

I was able to do the roof crux with the double heels method, but in the end, as soon as I tried the kneebar, it was in the bag. 2 days [7].

Two routes in one split by a sit. Both cruxes are huge rockovers; the first powerful, the second delicate. Akimbo holds + 66% humidity = skin punishment. [4]

Success. This route was a joy to climb on. [6]

Kneebars to a short steep boulder on underclings, then more kneebars to what is ultimately a super techy tufa-slab. Great way to finish the trip (10th guidebook 8a), and was able to climb in the pouring rain - a bonus. [3]

Super incredible route. Stoked to do it in 80% humidity after today’s storms. This sector is pure gold. [3]

Wow! Battle Royale. Nearly every hold is a tufa. Steep. Bloody hard and tricky. [2]
