Early birthday present! What a rad outing. Like the Free Route, but with proper physical, burly climbing. The crux pitch is very sustained in the bottom half. Gale force winds made this a griping, shivering, barn-dooring experience. P1 - Self-belay shennanigans after the belay got dumped by waves. After self-belaying to the end-of-pitch anchor, I fixed the rope there, and back-tracked to undo my self-belay anchor so Jared could rap all the way to the P2 belay from the mainland. P2 - Hard fought, unchalked onsight. The top 5m is fierce arete slapping. I almost gave up at the last bolt as I struggled to clip mid-barndoor, but just squeaked it. P3 - 4th shot total (including onsight attempt and a TRS lap). On my 3rd shot I fell off on tbe last move of the last hard sequence. Stacked techo climbing, with no shutdown crux.

The third pitch is stupendous classic climbing, though it’s easier than the first 2 feisty pitches which are also very good, but first pitch a little spoogy. Descent in 2 raps from above golden ticket to pinnacle then down with a 70 m rope gets you to ground

First pitch tricky for 17, second pitch impossible if 167 cm with negative ape factor. And even if you are tall, it looked damn hard, even at 22 as it is on thesarvo.However I climbed a left hand variant that had insane laybacking but went clean, on second by climbing to the base of the crux, then moving down and left to a beautiful flake into thin hands.

Will lead the first pitch and I got the second. The first pitch is amazing, a choose your own crack adventure for the first half, finger locks, bridging, fist crack and thin hands. about halfway it transitions into the best hand crack i have experienced on Ben Lomond, this continues to the top of the pitch. Second pitch to the top is choss, Next time I climb I would climb on half ropes and rap off the tatt at the top of the first pitch.

It's got some really good climbing, but also some really not good climbing. Only attempt if you're comfortable dealing with choss. Rob dislodged an oven sized block 30m above me. I jumped off the ledge onto my anchor, and the rock and it's debris bounced pretty much where I'd been belaying. The two cruxes are both very good and the final pitch is really pleasant. Pitch 1 is a bit deathy though.

Good climbing up an indistinct line. Started up Solaris but I think we ended up on Giant Vibrator in the top half. Interesting featured rock. Far less chossy than it looks, but still quite a few dodgy loose blocks to tiptoe around.

This is given 3 stars in the guide. It has a nice belay at the end of P4 an amazing threader. The crux on P3is quite diabolical and ok for amusement factor but feels way harder than 17. P1 is a vegetated grovel and P2 a short intense corner. P5 airy, P6 nice rock but easy. Minus points for descent down vegetated gully. And it looks like a bulldog rather than a beagle, and then only from a boat.

After doing an interesting 2 pitch start, we got onto the route proper and made up time. Alt with Dave. After the horrible 3rd and 4 th pitches the rest was fun, and choss mostly avoidable. Climbed right wall of exit chimneys as much as possible. Visionary routing by Pettigrew and Allen that could be tidied up and do with a better description. Led 3/4, 6,8,10,12/13. Back eating dinner before dark.

Fantastic route at the grade through outrageous rock architecture. The bollard to abseil off at 60 m is quite wide, 2m of tat needed. The existing tat is ok, but very sun bleached.
