I grew up in Dural, NSW, in the late 1960s and early 1970s climbing occasionally with my father who’d take me into the bush around Dural and set up makeshift top ropes. In 1976 I did some roped climbing in Wales and in 1978 we moved to the US. We ended up in New Mexico in 1981 where I got heavily into climbing. I’ve never stopped. I’ve done first ascents of 81 desert towers. I’ve written a bunch of books about climbing and I live in the mountains of Central Colorado. I’ve never had a proper job, to quote my friend Doug, and I like it that way.
