Summary

A rock-climbing location that allows you to improve your level since it offers a variety of grades to choose from.

Description

A climbing area with solid climbing grades, multi-chromatic features, lots of rock friction, countless body movements, multi-pitch ready, crags, and the capability of enhancing the difficulty of certain routes by climbing their extensions. Propose to be the next climbing school due to the capability of realizing rope access techniques in a near boulder with adequate infrastructure and illustrated signs. Many routes are equipped with equalized 2 united points and an extra bolt aside to promote rope access maneuvers.

Access issues

It is the easiest, fastest first climbing sector in the town of, "San Francisco de Ixcatan", Zapopan, Jalisco. México. Less than 5 min arrival starting from Ixcatan´s main street following slightly inclined roads but no need for special vehicles to reach. 1,185mt altitude and usually around ≥13:00hrs complete shade in the routes. (GPS Coordinates: 20.866271,-103.347029)

Approach

It can take around 45-60min to reach the base of the climbing sector from Guadalajara´s downtown starting point. As a reference, always orient your trip using the left cliff visible at all times once you are in San Francisco de Ixcatan´s main paved street (Zaragoza). Once Zaragoza´s paved street ends, instead of following straight the usual dirt pathway to the other Ixcatan´s climbing sectors; take a LEFT turn in Francisco Ignacio Madero street and keep driving around 200m until you reach a crossroad. (As a reference point; to your left, there´s a framed picture on the wall of, "The virgin of Guadalupe", a narrow ascent to the center, and a local grocery store with a "Corona Extra" and "Abarrotes Kary" label to your right). Take a RIGHT turn in Vicente Guerrero street following a paved inclined road for 400m until reaching a crossroad. In front of you there´s an open terrace, take a LEFT turn onto a 20m paved decline. At this point, take a sharp RIGHT turn onto a dirt incline road and drive for around 3 minutes. (From this point until your destination, you can visualize on both sides an extensive field with Plum trees). You will pass by the landowner´s house that is located to your left where usually a pack of dogs runs to meet you along the side of the car. You´ve reached the last crossroad with the welcoming rock cliff in front of you; you can either take a left incline turn for section 3.0 or a right incline turn for rock climbing sections 1.0 & 2.0.

Where to stay

You can camp if you want in the parking lot, it´s clean and the terrain is fairly level allowing you to settle down. "Plombleau" is the closest climbing sector in San Francisco de Ixcatan with full cell phone (Telcel) coverage thanks to the nearby town´s antenna.

Ethic

-Please use your climbing equipment in the route´s reunion to top rope or lowering to ensure the durability of the materials. -Always use a helmet. -When plums season (Apr-Jun) arrives, please confirm local climbing developer to ensure the permission to tear the fruit since the cooperative owner prefers to collect first and later leave the leftovers for anybody. (Don´t worry, there is plenty of them!). -If quickdraws are left in any projecting route, please respect the equipment and don´t steal them. -Every route has a little aluminum plate label with the name of the route and the climbing grade in French and US format. -Do not litter and keep all your trash out of the climbing sector. -Do not light fires and even though the cooperative owner is not affected by music; just stay within accepted volume levels. -Don´t destroy the pathway and local flora by excessive use of 4x4 vehicle capabilities.

*Please feel free to mention the N.A. (Notable Ascents: First, second, onsight, flash, women ascents) so that your achievement can be logged in to the topo.

History

History timeline chart

Climbing sector developed in parallel to the start of the Sars-2 Covid 19 pandemia with the will to dare to try to bolt the infamous, "El Rayo de Zeus -Zeus´ lightning bolt" route that can be visualized from the town or easily seen every time you pass the town's graveyard and see the rock cliff in front of it. The climbing sector has been fully developed by climber, Rafael Enciso V. who has a usual presence during weekends and can gladly show you around the place.

(AS A COMPLETE AND TRANSPARENT PROCESS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MAKE ANY TYPE OF CONTRIBUTION TO THE LOCAL ACCESS FUND TO CONTINUE THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS CLIMBING SECTOR.
