description

description

Very quiet area in a dense forest. Plenty of harder climbs and both sunny and north facing areas
description
Three sectors with different characters. Dreamland is a little further but offers steep, hard climbing on a south facing crag. The other two sectors are more or less Noth West facing so catch late afternoon summer sun through the trees.
The area does not appear to see much traffic so many routes have loose rock so wear a helmet whilst belaying and climbing.
approach
For parking drive past the Stierenberg Restaurant about 0.5km to the Wäsmeli parking area.
Walk north out of the parking and follow the grassy track downhill. Stay on this track through the forest until you round a tight right-hand bend. If you look up the steep slope you will see the start of the main sector. To get to Dreamland sector see the detailed approach notes!

Liebe Kletterin, lieber Kletterer,

1.2.29. Santelhöchi 95 routes in Crag
- Summary:
-
All Sport climbing
Lat / Long: 47.336027, 7.811273
summary
A pleasant and secluded crag set in the forested hillside above Egerkingen. Some quality lines and enough to keep most climbers busy.
description
Santelhöchi comprises six isolated and very different feeling sectors across 400m of densely wooded hillside.
Climbing style here is predominantly face and steep slab climbing on highly featured limestone. Good technique, footwork and a creative problem solving mind are required here.
A few routes have small bulges or overhangs to navigate but if you're looking for continuous steep climbing or pure power routes best to look elsewhere.
The first five sectors, approaching from the top have by far the best rock, the best climbing and longest routes. The last sector, Paladium, contains the smallest and least loved looking routes.
Despite being heavily wooded the area dries quickly meaning most of the routes are climbable even after a a night of heavy thunderstorms. Some of the harder climbs in Totentanz sector are prone to seepage making them somewhat stiffer until they dry out.
Bolts are generally well placed and closely spaced making this a low stress climbing area. Most of the routes in the upper five sectors have double bolted lower offs however care should be taken if climbing in Paladium given the use of single bolt anchors on less than ideal hangers.
Most of the routes have some loose rock so wearing a helmet is highly recommended and care should be taken with some of the larger looking blocks, especially on some of the easier climbs.
approach
There are two possibilities for parking. Best is to park at the crossroads at 47.33898, 7.80514 and then walk down to the crag. There is space for 8 cars.
From the parking area cross the road (heading SE) and take the small path directly on the right. Walk downhill until you come out onto a forest road. Turn left and follow the road until it turns into a well trodden path. Follow the path until you reach the Alpenrose sector.

description
Good crag with some climbs of up to 25m. Consists of 3 sectors. 2 are shady and one get's the sun so you can climb here on colder days.
access issues
Do not park at Vauladrey the land owners do not want parked cars here.
approach
Park next the wood shed towards the end of Cernil Girard. Do not park at Vauladrey as the land owners do not want parked cars here. From the woodshed head down hill and then follow the track of the right. It is a 10 minute walk. You know you are in the right spot when you find . a set of stairs cut into the rock. If you end up crossing a cleared field by a house and reach a dirt road this is the wrong direction but is you can continue up the dirt road and reach the crag it is just a slightly longer walk.
ethic
The path is also used by cyclists and walkers try not to leave anything blocking their way.

Erratic granite block in semi-open forest. Sunny place. Beware of ticks. The block offers some very hard boulders and easy warm-ups, with not so much in between.
approach
By car, follow the road from big roundabout above Corcelles in direction Montmollin for about 30 seconds. After the first long left turn, a small road goes right into the forest, called "Sentier botanique", barely visible from the main road. You will probably miss it the first time... Follow the "Sentier" for about 200 meters and park your car on the right hand side. A private road is going to the left at that place. A small hiking path is also starting to the left of the private road. Hike up that path for about 3 minutes and you will see the block on the left.

description

Small but very nice crag with a good range of routes in the 5th, 6th and 7th french degree. Large flat base on the main area and very easy to access.
description
Quiet area with lake view, kids friendly (even though it is recommended to mind potential rock falls). Quality rock with interesting features.
access issues
The crag is just above the church, almost impossible to miss. There is a free car park along the lake in Le Pont where you can park and walk to the crag, or, there is a small car park along the road in the turn right after the crag.
approach
From the car park along the lake in Le Pont, walk the stairs going to the little church and join the road going uphill. Pass a house on your left, then 15m later there is a path on your right going to the crag

summary
Climbing school for kids and beginners in a quiet and beautiful landscape. Very kids friendly
description
Short crag with easy routes on very nice rock features. The lower right hand side wall has some particularly interesting large water drilled holes that make the climbing super nice for young kids. Equipment is good and the base of the main wall is large and flat what makes it a perfect place to spend time with youngsters. The main wall is rather vertical and has some longer routes. There is also a very short via ferrata crossing the wall.
access issues
There is a public parking in Vaulion, about 800m from the crag. It is also tolerated, to a certain extend, to park next to the crag in the little parking on the side of the road, on the left side of the road when you head towards Romainmoutier. From this parking, there is a path in the forest going straight to the wall (2min).
approach
The wall is next to a private land, make sure you do not remove the fences installed to keep the cows and sheeps in the meadow.

Mostly Sport climbing
Lat / Long: 46.670597, 6.497473
summary
Super nice, historical and famous swiss crag with all climbing styles and really all levels available. Quiet landscape and easy access. What else ?!
description
A few hundreds of routes up to the 9th French grade. This is a long limestone cliff spreading along more than 1 km and facing south west. There are in facts 2 areas separated by 10 minutes of easy hiking; but people would usually talk about 3 to 4 main sectors, 2 in each of area. Short routes in "Le Chaney" (10 to 20m); much longer ones on the main cliff (40m). Equipment is excellent thanks to the contributions of local individuals and associations (CAS)
access issues
Several options to park in Pompaples, including the car park of the Hospital which will cost you a few CHF. It is also possible to have a quicker access to sectors "Le Chaney" by parking in a small parking lot along the road between Pompaples and Croy. By train, you shall alight at La Sarraz and walk towards Pompaples and then the main Cliff (about 25 min)
approach
From Pompaples, less than 10 minutes walk to the main cliff, an additional 10 minutes to get to sector Le Chaney, including a less easy and steeper walk through the forest
ethic
Respect the place and its surroundings. Pay attention to wildlife. There are periods of the year where some sectors are "closed" in order to let nature do its magic. Make sure you respect the quietness of the hospital surroundings.
