Ascents in Katoomba Area

Repeat warmup, such a classic.

I have vague memories of trying the start of this a few years ago and never went past the first bolt or two so can't let myself claim a flash on this one. Anyway great fun pumper.

Super fun outing! The abseils are fun and the position is ridiculous. The climbing is interesting for all but one pitch, and even that one is engaging because it's too sharp to fall. I feel sorry for whoever goes on an adventure like this and doesn't think they've had a four star experience.

One 60m rope is long enough to do all the abseils. Third pitch is easy, last pitch is sandbagged.

Got 1.5 tie-ins before the sun hit and it became impossible. Still pretty much going bolt to bolt but found a better beta for the very end of the traverse

Gave it a serious attempt but lost it looking for some power to go grab the jug floor of the cave on top. Pretty much the last droppable move .

I never log ascents. Just wanted to add the block in the MIDDLE of pitch 2 looks like its getting closer to being a flight risk. Not the previously discussed belay ledge block.

Thin spooky headwall. Nice to take some falls again with friends

If you're doing the direct start it might be worth on the abseil down placing a 5 or 4 with a long sling above the now lushly vegetated corner down low as there's not much pro down there and hardest move on the climb scrambling up below it, or could alternatively tie an alpine butterfly in the static rope to use on the way back up. The one bolt below it is an old one but seems solid enough

Seconding Monty on the FA. Not clean -I got too scared on second on the traverse crux at the start (given there was 35m of rope in the system) and aided off a bolt out to the arete. It then also took me a bit to figure out the mid-height crux.

A very cool mixed route, IMO. The start is a funky bit of traversing (who doesn't love a traverse crux, right?) and the face section is more varied face climbing.

Exciting second pitch and ridiculous chimney squeeze on the thirds.

Bah, not winning Fell off a key hold well-above the cruxy start that for some reason was covered in sand. Its okay, future ascensionists, I've cleaned it up for you now

The start is hard, but super rad when you figure it out. The roof is strangely easy, given its absurdity, and the climbing above is relatively cruisy.

Totally worth your time!

Fell off the start, reset and onsight the rest.

First ever first ascent! 5 days cleaning and bolting and then two to send.

Crux move is quite condition dependant, and i thought it was going to be much much harder after attempting it in the sun. But a night time ascent with nice cool temps had the crux crimp feeling good and making the movement much easier. Totally wild position for the grade and well worth the effort despite being less sustained than hoped.

Probably grade 21 for the first 10m then chills considerably. Totally psyched and an awesome experience!

Found a way to clip the crux draw that totally won’t be desperate on link or anything like that. Not much progress otherwise.

Finished the whole traverse but my fingers were so numb I could not really feel the holds and do the last couple of moves to the rest. Lesson to be learned, I guess.

Super classy hardish move at second bolt. Crux is the whole traverse, but especially going RH to glued on crimp rail thingy and then matching it (and then clipping somehow? lol). Another heartbreaker move right before the cave under the anchor. So much harder than it looks from the ground. My brain will never learn that big chalk =/= big hold.

Really good! Took 2 falls on the second bolt! Got everything else clean! Good effort coulda sent, was so pumped but got 2 kneebars

Figured with the draws on I’d have a fiddle - didn’t want to commit to getting to the top of something with the finger playing up.

The parts I did were super fun, but a few too many crimps to be happy pulling. Keen to come back when feeling strong

Punchy start, then pumpy to the top. All this time off has got me getting pumped on everything. Fun and full value, but not enough long sequences - just 2 moves to break repeatedly

Fun corner smearing, but it’s all jugs after which is a bit sad.

Might be a bit easier with my secret new beta of “jump to the jug to avoid the hard moves”. Said jug then pulling off the wall a couple minutes later was a little bit engaging though
