Quarzite mesa approximately 10kms south of Nyirripi aboriginal settlement (Freehold aboriginal land)
On the edge of the Tanami desert, Nyirripi is a small township of about 150 people. It is on closed aboriginal land and permission is required before entering. Locate it on a google map. Please do not submit any images of the area.
This is a sacred Aboriginal site. Under the Aboriginal Land Act, it is illegal to enter onto or remain on Aboriginal land or use a road without a written permit, and such conduct may attract large fines. You must get a permit from the Central Land Council to enter. Please refer to the ‘special purpose permit’ section of their website:
At the end of the Karrku road, where it is still flat, there is a good camp site about 500mts below the northern end of Karrku. Follow the rough four wheel drive track that rises to meet the northern end of the mesa. As you walk up you will notice a prominent tower on the eastern side of the mesa. Rurdaki is the mountain behind you.
Camp at the end of the Karrku Rd but only after getting a permit.
This is a closed aboriginal community so please respect traditional ownership and ask before climbing. There are sacred sites in this area. Please do not submit any images of the area.
Unsure if anyone has ever climbed on Karrku or Rurdaki. Probably not but you never know. We visited there in april 2016 and climbed two routes on the northern end, just left of the prominent roof with guano stains
If you know where this crag is then please take a minute to locate it for the climbing community. Please contact us if you have any issues.
