Ascents of Big Trad Thong

Enjoyable day and climbing. Average rock quality added to the excitement (from memory I broke something off every pitch). Some good logistical lessons learnt given the wandery nature of some of the pitches.

Pitch 4 and 5 are the best. Pitch 2, 3 and parts of 4 are major choss. For rack next time dont bother with nuts or more than just a few slings for threads. Cams all the way, mainly #2, 3, 4 and even 5 helped at least twice. Other sizes also used few times. Need lots of very long draws.

Heavy choss in middle pitches but roof is awesome.

Definitely one to get the heart pumping particularly the super scary traverse! Left a fair bit of blood along the way, whoops! Great day's adventure.

Started on wrong climb. Scariest experience of my life so many massive loose boulders. Pulled off so many loose holds and other just turned to dust in my hand.

Hmmm, I think the highlight was finding a booty bolt plate.

25 Jan 2011. With JengA. Led pitches 2, 4 and 6. Seconded 1, 3 and 5. Two rests on the (crux) roof traverse, with temperatures in the mid 40's sucking my energy. Quite chossy, but a few good moves, and the 1st, 4th and 5th pitch are quite good.

Too chossy for my tastes. Rapped off after 3 pitches and won't be going back.
