Ascents climbed between 2022-00-00 and 2022-12-31 in Arapiles having Trad CPR

Whoop! What a route! Super psyched on the style and the lessons it taught me. Given the history it was always a dream route. Quite the mental battle in the end. This trip (my 3rd on the route) I managed to pretty quickly cruise up to and through the birdbath. But I fell 9 times above the birdbath!, mostly trying to match hands after getting my foot on it. Tough to match this route as a lesson in technique and flow, especially the top half. Thanks to Marie for the many patient belays and to Will Monks for working it with me last trip.

Unreal!!! Never in a million years did I envision getting on this. Fortunately Brad brought the psyche and I now have another unforgettable memory to add to the collection out here. Came within millimeters of onsighting P1 then stoked with the flash of the 26 finish of P2

Is it a true onsight if I’d already done the first half when working Final Departure? Probably not. Am I still going to claim it in true BestOfTheCrag style? Heck yes. Brilliant route!

Back in the game baby

What a serene parable of a climb. Didn’t even think something of this level was possible after 3 months laid off with injury. Looked across at the line from the bath atop Clytemnestra just as the sun struck it this morning, visualised the moves and thought “that’s going today”. And go it did. Perhaps the most ataraxic climb I’ve ever done. What an experience. What a route. What a place

Very very nice route. Climbs like a dream. No beta, but the gear was in. Lovely way to end the trip, amazed my arms had anything left

Punks shot #2. Hot, face melting. Was mostly keen to experience the top section. Climbed clean to below the heel move, pulled through. Climbed from the rest and stuck the drive-by, couldn't stand up, then pulled through. Did the rest of moves, not nicely, with screaming skin. Then drive 11 hours home!

1.5 hours dogging around, experiencing a piece of climbing history. Did all moves up to and including the birdbath drive-by. Struggled after, didn't really get stood up. Also struggled on the lower heel move, kinda managed it once. Toasted by the time I lowered off. A 20+ year dream to get on this route.

Thought I was tired, I guess not ahah. Peer pressure helped

So it begins.

Very scary. Tough to read rising unprotected diagonal traverse with a bit of lichen. Stoked to have done it, falling was not really an option. In hindsight perhaps a head point would have been wiser.

Would be three stars if it wasn't a contrived link up

Great climbing. 2 sessions.

This is a really good climb. It may look a little squeezed in but it feels very independent. ppg. 4th try.

Second shot, felt just like Nowra

Great! Attempted ground up placing gear, then pinkpointed second shot before redpointing third shot. Awesome crack before two bouldery sequences, but good handjam rests.

Very enjoyable climbing with some tiny crimps up high. Basically a sport route with a single bolt up high protecting the entire crux.

Got to the bottom and realised I didn't have a small enough cam for the start, so ended up placing some gear off abseil in the crack at ~4m to protective start. Awesome rock. The top half is incredible at a much easier grade.

Small nut protects the move to first carrot. Really cool, kinda heady after roof.
