Ascents in Arapiles by Anna-Veronique L'hoest having trad-cpr or ascent-date

I was less nervous this time round (the gear had held, after all), resisted the urge to overgrip and sent!

This is the type of route that is not that pumpy once you have the moves sorted, but it slowly wrings all your energy and will to live out of you. The crux is fairly high, so by that time it was mainly a mental battle to resist the strong desire to just melt off. Felt great to send though :-D

Did all the moves with numerous rests. Felt hard but doable, will return to it.

Didn't have the beta for placing the gear sorted and stuffed up the bottom half of the route making it more dangerous than it needed to be. Ayayayy. But I sent.

My shoes were wet so I skidded all over the place. Somehow managed to claw my way to the top without falling off.

Toproped it clean while placing the gear. Should've just led it. Oh well.

Every few years I give this route another chance, thinking that all the people raving about it can't be wrong. Every few years I realize I still don't like it. It's probably just not my style. Oh well.

Harder than I remembbered.

Beautiful moves, fun climbing. Only the gear is... sketchy, fiddly, barely there. I'll stick to toproping this one.

Sussed out the gear so I wouldn't have a repeat of what happened on Strolling. One rest.

Got rained on. Toproped to clean the gear.

Couldn't do the crux move and lowered off from there.

Tried to do it in one pitch and failed due to crippling ropedrag and a crux right off a ledge. Escaped left into the top of Muldoon rather than pitch it out.

A thoroughly enjoyable route. I can't believe I hadn't done it before!

Felt a lot easier this time round.

I took what was probably the most spectacular whipper of my climbing career. I made it through the crux, only to end up hopelessly pumped on the crimps above. I fell off trying to latch to the good holds. I noticed the rope was a bit behind my leg, so I flicked my leg up to free it. That movement tilted me upside down. For the rest of the very long fall (maybe around 8 metres?) I focused on keeping my (helmeted) head away from the wall. Jed gave me a soft catch so I didn't slam into the wall too hard. It was nice to see that everything worked as it should and I was unharmed. Swung over to the bolt on the next route left then cleaned all the gear.

Another amazing route I hadn't done before. Did it in one mega pitch, highly recommended.

A few fun moves despite the copious amounts of lichen. Better than I expected.

Fun. Very convenient with the anchor at the top.

Looks like a finger crack, climbs like a juggy face.

Climbed it in a drizzle. Amazing how much moisture lichen and moss absorb.

Forgot a sling at the top of the cliff so got to lead this beauty again, after we had already packed everything up. Oh well.

Always a nice one.
