23 Hard Plight of the Quarryman - with Callum Brett, Kachow, Mana, pamelalansbury
1 17 Trad lead by Ross Paynter

Knew this pitch would go well from working parts of it previously. Felt like an engaged stance to clip the roof and the pro before joining The Fading Light felt a bit meh. Made an average hanging belay on the third and second bolts of Smearing on Mt McKinley. Section is still a little dirty but the pro is good.

2 21 Trad lead by Ross Paynter

Was a crux move heading right across the bolts towards Fear Late at Night before moving down and across. This was very spicey in the wet, trusting the smears would hold. Climbing through the bees was a bit of a mental crux however the holds were decent. Had to watch the barn door though. Glad I had worked this pitch previously too. Pro was okay on this pitch however Id have preferred something more than two marginal nuts before doing the bees. No bee stings were obtained by myself or my second!

3 15 Trad lead by Ross Paynter

Wasnt anything too exciting on this pitch other than doing it in the wet. Gaining the downclimb from the chains was rather tricky as all the holds were dripping. Straight forward climbing after that move. Did not work this prior.

4 20 Trad lead by Ross Paynter

Cools moves through Running to a Standstill. Another tricky move across a slab (No Mans Land) that was spicey in the wet. I put a 60cm sling on Exodus however Id have rather put a 90cm as I linked the next pitch to my own demise. Didnt work this as a pitch however had climbed enough line across it to know what to expect.

5 21 Trad lead by Ross Paynter

From Strawberry Shortcake/Sexy Love Slot the climbing was simple. Once at Dont Touch Me there it picks up again. I ended up putting in some pro to ease my nerves however it resulted in serious rope drag before the crux. Moving over the horn and around into Fisting a Shark is the challenge for this pitch. Even more so in the wet. My rope drag was so severe here Id have needed to back climb and clean to sort it. Thanks to Mana for helping here. Best belay ledge of the climb. Similar to the previous pitch, had worked enough to know what to expect but hadnt climbed it prior.

6 20 Trad lead by Ross Paynter

The downclimb was engaging to say the least. Then all I had to do was the crux of Felch Me With A Crazy Straw, Yeah!. Solid climbing mostly on bolts or good gear. Worst aspect was building a hanging belay on Onward Christian Soldier. Loaded the anchor up with 5 or so pieces. Im glad I did as when my second and I weighted it a small nut popped. Worked enough previously to know the moves and where to build a solid enough anchor.

7 22 Trad lead by Ross Paynter

Was very eager to clip the third bolt on Taste The Pain coming from my anchor. Even though it meant virtually doing the crux of that line. I slung the third bolt, then moved down to clip it proper. Moving down and across towards the choss roof was also quite tricky. Found a lovely obvious big cam slot and then another smaller cam slot through this pitch for pro before blasting to the ELV chains. This is still cleaning up, A LOT! I spent at least 2 hours previously cleaning large blocks off this pitch. Beware there are still more loose blocks around and plenty of dirt. Also worked this enough to know it would go clean on the day to minimise any risk through the choss. The climbing from Taste The Pain to ELV is about grade 20 and backs off the closer you get to ELV.

8 23 Trad lead by Ross Paynter

Was glad to make it to this pitch as it was all sport from here! Having dialed this previously I knew this would be a challenge. I was so close to bottling this slipping on multiple wet holds near the end. Such a rad line on its own and a great finish to an epic adventure line.

What an epic adventure! Well over a year ago I jokingly said I would do this. It became a project with some serious work, cleaning and scoping of various sectors. To my disbelief, today, it went in adverse conditions.

Hard to give it a grade as there are multiple mental cruxes and physical cruxes. Alas, it was all good fun! Thanks so much to my friends for coming out and supporting the 7 hour epic and to my second Callum for the journey

I have attempted to grade each pitch as I experienced them in the wet. There are some obvious crux bits based on the traditional lines in each sector.
