Ascents in Oceania as various tick types by Mitch Scanlan-Bloor

Slowly getting into this slab business. Found P2 hard and was proud to get the onsight through some diabolical moves. Foot slip on the start of P3 while spanning out through the bouldery start left me with a painful shoulder injury. P4 was slabby goodness!

Classy arete/face climbing. Amazing!

Onsight of pitches 2, 4, and 5, then seconded the rest. Mix bag of routes, but overall stellar climbing. The choss on pitch 4 was a total horror show! Pitch 2 requires some serious cranking, so bring your biceps. Pitch 5 will be forever known to me as 80kg of chicken wings... Trailing two 70m ropes, 16 quickdraws, belay gear and carrying the backpack led to the most chronic pump.

(Top pitch only). Hard to sum this one up. A climb that even the non-climbers know about. The cynical part of me figured it must be a bit of a novelty, but in reality this climb is amazing. Balancy, wandering, techy feet, perfect edges, a dash of cranking and in the most unreal location. It's the best! My proudest onsight by far.

Jumped off the stool as the start looked a bit heinous for a warm up.

Punchy boulder on a rope. Some sharp holds in the mix.

Really didn't look that great from the ground but I was really impressed.

Led pitch 2 and 4. Only a light rack of cams required, we didn't place a single nut the whole time. Doubles and/or pulley quickdraws handy to help reduce the rope drag.

More an exercise of how much shit gear I could get in before the crux.

Pretty easy climbing into a horror mono.

Consistent and stellar with some thought provoking sequences. Worthy of the hype.

It's all there, you just have to hope you find them before you pump out.

Feet copped the swell but it was dry from then on. Bring your most tenacious belayer!

A shame it's so short before the jug haul. Found the bottom press section really interesting. Pounced past the crimps so it didn't feel that hard.

Cruxy but not too sandy.

Started a mid-level then dropped down, then finished up the crack in the centre of the face. Rad sequence on side-pulls and gastons, smeary nothing footholds, then easily to finish.

Thin but powerful boulder sequence. A nice height above the water to try hard!

Definitely liked P1 more but excellent route overall.

Quality climbing throughout. Excellent conditions for it today.

This line really caught my eye last time I visited Araps. Bit of a mishap when I dropped half my nuts near the pin but thankfully this route just eats gear of any size. Stoked to get this one.

Stellar climbing. The holds on the final head wall are unreal.

Kept waiting for the crux but it just didn't seem to come. Sustained indeed!

Weird weird weird. Loved it.

Crux was the abseil! Found it very difficult to find the ledges on the way down. Acres of choss with wafer-like rock that crumbles underhand on most of the pitches. Amazing to start hanging 2m above the swell and kelp. Led pitches 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, & 9.

Felt pretty hard! Tricky to find the holds up there.

Grateful for my reach for the span move. Mantle at the start took some problem solving - ended up starting right and slinking over.

A little cruxy and some crumbly rock but definitely worth doing. Done late in the evening with the swell pounding through the chasm provided an amazing atmosphere!

No hands knee bar! Fun big moves.

Bit damp and goey down low but the top was excellent.

Liam linked P1 and P2 and I led P3 traversing in from start of Slow Twitch Extension. Tricky moves entering the slab pitch and 80km/h winds made for an intense finish over the lip. Growing up in Bowral I've looked up at this cliff my whole life so it was an amazing experience to get up it finally. Gets me psyched to try the other lines on the next visit home.

Stellar climbing in the groove, loved it. Rock was dry with a strong south westerly.

Great consistent climbing, lots of good rest and a few techy arete and corner moves. Great onsight by Nick on the second pitch.
