The tree for the first belay has been dead for decades & looks pretty brittle. I would recomend doing the direct start & going straight to the second belay. You can run the original start to the second belay, but there's a un-protected mid level traverse for the seconder.

I made the same mistake Matt Short did.. The guide says Pitch 2 is "Up" then "left" so up and left I went. Some nice & some dodgy cam pockets, spaced a bit far apart. 1/2 way through the pitch I see the pitch 2 belay below & to my left. :0 Climbed diagonally to top of crack & pitch3/abseil chains. Getting up to the chimney looked unprotected on brittle rock, so we rapped to the pitch 2 belay & scramble off. NB: This climb is definately an 8.. maybe a 14 if you do the chimney.
