Summary

The Denali National Park includes the highest mountain in North America at 6190m, as well as a near-infinite number of lesser known peaks and routes in a stunning alpine setting.

Approach

Fly into Anchorage and buy your food there. Talkeetna has two small stores, but neither sell enough to outfit an expedition.

The two main shuttle companies used by early season climbers are Talkeetna Trip and Go Purple. Denali Overland starts running trips in May. 2023 rates are around $330/bus so $165 each with 2 people, $110 each with 3 etc...

The railroad is another option and run $85-95, but shuttle busses are more flexible if you need to stop for food or reschedule due to weather.

Once in Talkeetna, fly in with one of 3 companies:

Talkeetna Air Taxi
runs the smoothest ship and mostly caters to climbers, especially for less visited landings.
Sheldon Air Service
arguably has the most history.
K2 Aviation
focuses on scenic tourist flights but can drop you off at most commonly visited glaciers.

Booking in advance is required but all services (especially the first two) have great flexibility and can accomodate most last-minute changes, as long as they're vaguely aware of your plans beforehand.

The north side of the range is not services by air, so you'll need to walk in from the Denali Park Road. Skis are nice to have for any glacial approaches in the range, as well as making for a nice rest-day activity.

History
