Summary:
All Sport climbing

Lat / Long: 33.078092, 35.189328

description

Keshet Cave (rainbow in Hebrew) is located in Western Galilee close to the Lebanon border. Geologic processes over years caused the collapse of the ceiling of a large karst cave. So now, despite of the name, it’s more like an amphitheater with colorful stalactites and majestic domes linked by a hanging bridge over an abyss. Keshet Cave combines the several sectors outside the cave including the neighboring riverbed of Namer.

history

Notwithstanding the high interest, the cave has been permitted for sport climbing only at the end of 2012. Since then, the site has been in rapid development, leaning on monetary donations by climbers from all over Israel. Already, routes have been opened there on an international scale of beauty, length, and difficulty. Although, by quantity of routes, the Keshet cave is still inferior to sites like Gita and Ein Prat, it is clear now that it will take a major place in the development of rock climbing in Israel.

summary

Small single-pitch limestone crag, 8-18 meters.

description

Tzurit is a small single-pitch crag found in the western Galilee region of Israel. The view is magnificent, overlooking the lush valley below. The rock is solid limestone, 8-18 meters high with grades ranging from 5-7a.

access issues

The crag is south-facing with hardly any shade. In the summer there is harsh, direct sun from noon until sunset. Cool, cloudy winter days are ideal, but it is also possible to climb in the early morning throughout the year. As of 2024, the approach (as well as traversing between sectors) is quite difficult, featuring thorny bushes and loose boulders.

approach

Navigate to "הזית" street in Tzurit and park immediately at the entrance parking lot (when you reach the settlement, tell the guard you're there to climb). Do not park in private driveways or block the road! From the parking lot travel down a concrete path and turn left at the red-marked road with the "שביל ילדי צורית" sign. Walk the road until you see the top of the crag to your right, then look for the path splitting right of the road (it can be difficult to spot).

ethic

Tzurit is a community settlement. Be considerate to others and do your part to maintain a good relationship with the locals. Do not park on private property or block roads. Leave no trace, clean up after yourself and pick up loose trash if you find any. DO NOT light fires! It is strictly forbidden and dangerous due to weather conditions and vegetation found at the crag.

history

The crag officially opened in 2021 following bolting and cleanup efforts by locals and ILCA volunteers.

Ein Prat, is the name of the spring gushing forth beneath the cliffs of Wadi Qelt, a uniqe canyon located in the West Bank that contains over 30 meters faces and is built from solid limestone. Be ware that you are within the military occupied West Bank and that you will have to pass armed checkpoints, soldiers and security forces depending on from where you approach.

approach

There are three ways to get to the crag:

  1. Park your car outside the main gate of the NP, take the marked trail down to the stream. (a beautiful walk of 15-25 minutes, depends if you going to the south or the north cliff). If you choose this option you can climb until sunset.

  2. Enter the NP with your car NP, park on the parking lot near the stream down the valley (2 minutes walk to the northern cliff and 10 minutes walk to the southern cliff). If you choose this option you need to get out of the Park before sunset (at summer in 5:00 PM and in winter at 4:00 PM).

  3. Park your car out side the gates of the Almon settlement, and follow the fence in a north-eastern direction until you hit a green marked hiking trail that will lead you down the valley to the cliff (the trail is a little distance to the left of the fence).
