The Junkyard
Nothing worldclass, and nothing like the main area, but there's treasure to be found amongst the junk. |
Flake boulder and its friend
10m to the left (when looking uphill) of the pride boulder. |
Flake boulder and its friend |
V1
Keep looking
Right hand on prominent jug. Left hand on hold to left. Feet as required, but not on ground level shelf. Move slightly right onto face and up from there. |
Keep looking right
Start as per keep looking but traverse right to top out as far right as possible on upper rock. Don't use the lip while traversing. |
Arete project
Open project. There must be something up this arete. |
Pride Boulder
The obvious featured boulder standing out from the rest in the Junkyard. This has some really nice problems that are somewhat different from most Toohey problems. There's a decent 2 metre drop-off underneath the main length of the boulder, but if you've got the balls and decent spotters, then there are some cool problems just waiting to be unlocked. Small boulder with a lot of holds and surprisingly nice problems to the left of the large roofed boulder. |
Pride Boulder |
Marble Boulder
Smaller boulder left of the impressive Pride Boulder. |
V2
★ Deceptive throw
Sit start. Right hand on knee high (when standing) edge. Left hand on edge/ pocket up and left. Right foot on low shelf. Left foot flag. Right hand reaches up. Rearrange feet and throw for top. Do not use large left shelf. |
V4
★★ Garbage Man
Start on big low jug, then straight up through a cool sloper. |
V3
★★ Gomu Gomu
Start on big low jug, then up and right to top out above and right of the faint crack line. |
V2
★ Hana Hana
Start in the undercling to the right of the small cave, and straight up, sort of between the two boulders, keeping off the one behind you. Take care when falling. |
Pride Boulder
Long obvious featured, overhanging boulder. |
V4
★ Wide Open
Akward-ish start on the left jug under the roof, then up to a bomber jug on the lip. Quite body tension-ey. |
V2
★ Trash Can
Start on the left jug under the roof, then traverse out right until the rail finishes, then throw to jug on the roof lip and continue up. |
V3
★★ Mera Mera
Start the same as Jesse's Direct Finish, but when the rail ends, continue right to the prow, then top out. |
V3
★★ Straw Hat Pirate
As Mera Mera but extend along the lip to the right following the overhanging line to it's zenith before topping out |
Jesse's Prow Compression Proj
Jesse's crazy idea for a cool, committing compression problem on the prow. |
V1
Unleash the Cancer Within
Sit start in the cave on this massive undercling. Find your way straight up in the corner through some interesting moves. Beware the drop behind you. Spotters recommended. |
★★★ "Falling not recommended" Projects
This project is listed to show the potential for a few possible problems here. There will be cool hard steep problems (V2 - V7?), but all of these have bad falls with tricky spotting and mat placement. A problem traversing the lip across the whole boulder would be quite impressive ... hint hint |
The Mantle Training Centre
A low-set boulder with good holds down low, but not a lot at the top. Makes for some good low-grade mantling training. Also has Peak Boulder, a small triangle-shaped boulder with a massive loose arete on it. |

It's a Girl!
'Toohey Forest' is owned by the Brisbane City Council. It's an important habitat for 400 plants and animals, and is very popular with walkers, joggers and picnicking families. Therefore the usual rules of taking out your rubbish, keeping noise to a minimum, cleaning any chalk marks and so on are particularly important here if climbing is to remain an acceptable activity in the eyes of the community. |

That Ain't My Baby
Starts at It's a Boy, and traverses out right, topping out on the back of the boulder, to the L of Baby Bump. |
V1
★ Baby Bump
On the back of the Mantle Training Area Boulder. Starts low on a big bump. Cool little problem. |
Peak Boulder |
V1
Peak
Sit start on the right "ridge" of the small peak. Straight up. |
Roof boulder
Obvious roof 5m uphill and left (looking uphill) from pride boulder. Beware, the right hand end of the obvious ledge at the lip is flaking. Could result in a nasty fall. |
Roof boulder |
V1
Hell
Both hands on obvious jug towards right end of shelf. Feet as required under roof. Mantle from here and try not to scrape your skin off. |
V3
★ Bat out of hell
Start right hand on the larger of the two rails below the roof. Left hand on the smaller sloped rail. Work your way out of the roof and top out as per Hell. |
