攀登 in 新西兰 as various tick types

Good to get on it, much more interesting than I expected. Crimpy middle hold, that turns into foot hold near the top is key - plus the hidden side pull round the corner up there.

Yes! Finally unlocked the crux moves from 3rd to 4th in a repeatable way. Turns out you really do need to smear a couple of times on the face, but at least it turns out that sharp little side pull is avoidable. Now I just need to get up the nerve to try clipping the 3rd bolt.

Got shut down again at the same place, AND forgot foot beta

Third go of the day. High point (top-roping 😅). Climbed clean to the wide-pinch sloper left of the third bolt. Scary to think of clipping this bolt. Tried to do the crux from 3rd to 4th again and cut open my left index finger on the sharp left two-finger crimp side-pull trying the move too many times. Session over

Second go of the day. Just top-roped using 6th bolt as anchor to work the crux again. Finally did all the moves in the crux. Then fell pretty awkwardly after doing the last move of the crux for the first time.

First go of the day. top-roped to where Alex has put in the gear (4th bolt), working the crux between 3rd and 4th. Then lead the dihedral and put in the gear for 5th and 6th bolts.

Previous time I tried this I found the very beginning hard and the arete up high challenging. Today I got shut down on the slab bit between bolt 2 and 3.

Worked the moves and got everything feeling better.

Mixed climbed. Very hard start, felt M5/6ish. Need to come back for the send

Decided to climb this without knowing the grade. Hang dogged my way up to the last bolt. Took 3 falls just shy of the anchor and gave up.

Super pumpy climb for first half

Jumped on the top-rope Glenda had set up, so I could check this route out. The bridging at the top of the route is pretty straightforward, as is the intro through the first couple of bolts. From 2nd-4th is very insecure. It would be very hard to work this section on lead.

Warm up? Got to about the 8th bolt with a couple of rests and was getting too warm in the sun

Still struggling with the crux but managed to do the moves at the top which I couldn't before so I guess that's a win

Technical climb with no obvious beta, but once discovered it all makes sense.
