Ascents in The Mushroom

Very cool, fun hands to an ever-widening crack with a distinct crux and spicy top out. Bring offwidth skillz. Hard.

Bob Scarpelli himself would probably call this a sandbag. It's a shame because its an excellent climb but probably more like a 19, maybe 20.

Wide #6 sized rooflet for a second distinct crux and couldn't find any cheater holds - definitely going to have to work on my wide crack magic to even get all the moves on this.

Would need a whole rack from thin hands to six for a sane ascent. Topropes easily enough with some rope drag.

Thought we’d give it a go. I can probably see everything fits together but the moves are steep and big, the lichen makes it more difficult. Bring a broom and leaf blower

Had tried this a few years ago in summer and, being in full sun all day, had to walk away. Could get clean to the move past the second bolt but then pretty much needed to be hauled up through the next section. Could hold the individual moves for a second before peeling a layer of skin off. 3 tries but it's just not that great a line to go back for. No anchor on this one. Bring a selection of brushes for all the lichen and an umbrella for your belayer...

Eyeballed this one as the best thing to try. Felt pretty tricksy through that rooflet, and a big runout at the top after not taking the right sized cams.

Nice climbing all the way up. Would be interesting to know what this climb was like 20 years ago or whenever it was put up & the fig tree non-existant or much smaller. Dan & Owen 2nd & 3rd. Peter belayed.

Very good climbing all the way, lovely hand crack above the overhang. I took a 3m fall from above the overhang, but at least it was clean & I had 3 pieces in at the overhang so I felt pretty secure about taking it. Peter did an excellent job of belaying. Dan & Owen 2nd & 3rd.

Started on this one first up, but couldn't get up it, so I did some others & came back in the afternoon. The gear is good despite the rock looking very doubtfull (I placed nests of small gear), but was very grungy up the top - thick with vegetation & moss. Took a 4m whipper when 1 of my pieces poped. Peter did an excellent job of belaying - owe you 1 mate! Owen 2nd - Dan did a cop out!

Nice moves up the corner. Some great holds.

Lots of good fig root holds in the crack.

Nice fist size crack on solid rock.
