Ascents in Mount Wellington as Clean by Vanessa Wills

Did the last 2 pitches in 3. Stopping at the notch seemed sensible. I led the last bit only which was not bad, but the crack below was good, though the chimney exit felt hard

We went direct via some great bouldery moves. I couldn’t reach the way Dave did to a good hold way right, but managed to figure out a tough way whereby I thought my heel would snap if I fell, so did it on TR clean after two lead goes and aiding through crux on first go. Going direct seemed more 24 at my height. The flake to the right of the third bolt rocks and although keyed in at the moment may loosen or come out if someone yarded on it. We actually liked it, includes staying on face past 3 Rd bolt. Dave also did the arete finish.

Nice view throughout, but the rock is a bit grungy

Should have led it, I read it well except for a hidden footer below a draw. Much easier for me than some of the height dependent routes eg in flagrante.

Hurrah for arete climbing on offwidths. Should be more of it.

Cold afternoon. Didn’t do as per description, but went straight up crack.

Led P2, Dave 1 and 3. P2 Feels stout for the grade, but did a much better job than a few years back when I had to bail due to being sick. P3 is high quality as well.

Climbed mostly with one hand. The swelling has gone down but I can’t afford to aggravate finger. Not quite the climbing holiday we planned, but spent a night on the porta ledge at lost world, which was cool, ran up this and on way to airport.

Wet and chossy. Top 8m good. May be nicer on a warm day.

I felt like a jelly roll, after a bout of food poisoning. Quite cold.

To top, started to lead it but couldn't work out crux trying to go direct to next bolt.

Felt wet and slimy on lead attempt, still quite tricky second time around. Reach could be an issue.

Hmm, it was dirty but it still seemed pretty tricky for the grade.

Gear recovery mission at 7am after others bailed, first pitch only due to flight at 1030! Actually pretty nice and in our circumstance the bolts were useful!
