Ascents in Tasmania as trad by James Hockey

Squeezing this in the day after Sydney probably added another year onto when I’d return, Three stars.

Such a rich experience to climb at Frenchman’s, not all positive, not all negative but all memorable. Managed to catch a beautiful 5 day weather window and all our routes were bone dry. I got the pointy end of the rope on the Devils staircase which Is more than a bit stiff at 16. Also finding the start was a whole ordeal and I assume I was somewhere near the original. I went up the main gully, sus traverse on vegetation to a grassy ledge then up a “botanically influenced” crack for a full rope length until I spied the chimney on P3. Second tick off the lifelist in a week.

Felt like climbing on another planet

Nice jamming, bit of dirt.

What a ridiculous splitter. About 25m of pure red, on my onsight burn i fought stupidly hard and only got 1/3rd or 1/2 way before getting spat off. Then hopelessly and spookily dogging up with less cams than i would've liked. Send or no I'm super stoked I backed myself and pulled the rope for the lead.

TX4s and kelp jugs

Pleasant multi with some variety and a cool crux.

Very rad, four of my mates whipped on gear which inspired me to go for it. One quick lap on TR, didn’t do nearly enough inspection at the top. Sent first proper shot, the roof and lip are so rad and the technical groove was something else, fiddling and swearing at unfriendly peenuts while balancing on smears and slopey flakes for a solid 15 minutes. Sick line though.

Interesting gear at the start up to the awesome flake feature.

P1 only, started hailing as we were racking up, I led first pitch then cold overtook the novelty before starting P2 and we decided to bail.

Came off at the top first time while delirious and dehydrated, stopped to eat food and drink for the first time in 6 hours and it came together beautifully. Standing on top was one of the best feelings I’ve had in climbing.

Just did a lap of the corner to place gear on granite.

Amazing!!! Wandered off into the 18 at the very end so i'll drop a grade but a great bucket list climb to tick.
