Dolomite climbing light - easy access, solid rock and lots of bolted routes.

description

The Cinque Torri (five towers) are one of the most scenic spots of the Dolomites and ideal for beginners of alpine climbing. The routes are short and the approach is gentle.

Cinque Torri, as all the other mountains in the area, are made of Dolomite, with a particular pale grey colour. The group is formed by five towers (which give the name to the mountain) with a maximum elevation of 2.361 m ('Torre Grande'). Every "tower" has its own name:

  • 'Torre Grande', the highest one has three very appealing peaks: 'Cima Nord', 'Cima Sud' e 'Cima Ovest';
  • Torre Seconda, also named 'Torre del Barancio' or 'Torre Romana';
  • Terza Torre, or 'Torre Latina';
  • Quarta Torre, formed by two blocks of rock with different height, respectively called then 'Torre Quarta Bassa' and 'Torre Quarta Alta';
  • Quinta Torre, or 'Torre Inglese'.

They are located in the south-west area of the valley of Cortina d'Ampezzo, north of the Averau mountain, which Cinque Torri can be considered part of. Between the towers there is an open air WW1-museum. Expect crowds of climbers and visitors!

1.1.3. Tre Cime di Lavaredo 47 routes in Crag

Summary:
Mostly Trad climbing

Lat / Long: 46.619225, 12.299079

description

The Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Italian for "three peaks of Lavaredo"), also called the Drei Zinnen (German, literally "three merlons"), are three distinctive battlement-like peaks, in the Sexten Dolomites of northeastern Italy. They are probably one of the best-known mountain groups in the Alps. The three peaks, from east to west, are:

  • Cima Piccola / Kleine Zinne ("little peak")
  • Cima Grande / Große Zinne ("big peak")
  • Cima Ovest / Westliche Zinne ("western peak").

history

The first ascent of the Cima Grande was on August 21, 1869, by Paul Grohmann with guides Franz Innerkofler and Peter Salcher. The Cima Ovest was first climbed exactly ten years later, on August 21, 1879, by Michel Innerkofler with G. Ploner, a tourist. The Cima Piccola was first climbed on July 25, 1881, by Michel and Hans Innerkofler. The routes of these three first ascents are still the normal ascent routes; the Cima Piccola's route is the most difficult of the three.

Emilio Comici † was the first to climb the north face of the Cima Grande in 1933 in a party of three, after an ascent time of 3 days and 2 nights. This partly overhanging northern face is considered by climbers to be one of the great north faces of the Alps.

Other Milestones:

  • 1987 First free ascent of 'Hasse-Brandler' and 'Schweizer Führe' by Kurt Albert †
  • 2001 First free ascent of 'Bellavista' by Alexander Huber
  • 2007 First free ascent of 'Pan Aroma' by Alexander Huber

description

Climbing on mostly overhanging limestone walls, with a great variety of holds. Extremely aesthetic routes. The inclination and length of the routes make the climbing particularly tiring. Orientation varies from SOuth East to South West which makes it a great crag for spring and fall or even winter on sunny days.

Famous also for special limestone rock type: calcareous sinter.

approach

Ceredo is located on the slopes of the Lessini Mountains a few kilometers north of Verona. It can be reached mainly from two directions. For those coming from the Milan-Venice A4 highway, the exit is Verona East. Go straight in the direction of Boscochiesanuova, pass some villages and, once you reach Stallavena, follow the road to Erbezzo. Continue along the valley and after the villages of Lugo and Bellori, you start to climb and after a while a small fork on the left indicates Ceredo and Fosse. Follow the road, pass a sort of small hairpin bend, and arrive at a parking lot located on the side of the road, in an obvious straight uphill. Park with care.

For those arriving from the north and descending along the Brenner motorway (A22), the best exit is in Ala - Avio. Continue south and in the village of Peri take a winding road that goes up the mountain leading to the village of Fosse. From here you go down towards Grezzana and Verona. After about 6 km you reach the straight road where you can leave your car.

From here starts a path (initially formerly a paved road) that climbs in a few minutes to the walls that are always a little hidden by the vegetation.

summary

The crag now has around 30 pitches and many projects that will allow for further development in the coming years. It is basically divided into 3 sectors:

-Terra di mezzo, (pitches 6b to 7b) is the first one found and also the smallest. -Giardinetto, (pitches 5b to 6c) represents the base camp of the whole area, with difficulties suitable for entry-level and warm-up. -Spiaggia delle Lumache, (pitches 6b to 8a) is the heart of the crag, aesthetically the most impressive, with pitches over 30 metres long and a very varied climb.

description

The crag is located in the municipality of San Pietro Valdastico, more precisely in the small village of Contrà Lucca (car park). From Arsiero follow the state road in the direction of Trento for 10 km. At Ponte Maso turn right (signposted San Pietro Valdastico), cross the bridge and continue uphill towards the centre of the village. After about 300 m, before entering the town centre, turn left (bank and signs for Contrà Lucca). Continue uphill, keeping to the right you will come to Contrà Lucca, beyond the large fountain the car park is signposted. From here a short uphill path takes you to the cliff in 10 minutes.
